I go for a walk with a friend. We talk about struggles from our lives, true happiness and snow. We both agree that we love snow and wish that we could go snow skiing this winter.
Merry Christmas everyone!

Hello, Twenty Ten! To celebrate the new year 2010, I went on a trip to Scotland that I’d been looking forward for so long. In Edinburgh, the capital of Scotland, they have the “‘Hogmany festival’ at New year’s Eve which is one of the most celebrated winter and new year festivals in Europe.

Edinburgh isn’t a big city and the streets aren’t so complicated so you can fully enjoy the city by walking around. There were 2 things that surprised me when I arrived at Edinburgh. One was the pile of snow which you can hardly find in Britain and the other is the freezing cold weather; no wonder why there was such massive snow! But thankfully the sky was very clear and pretty that made me feel fresh while I was walking round.

When you walk along Prince Street which separates the old and new town of Edinburgh, you’ll spot the giant eye-catching architecture burnt like black color. It’s the Scott’s Monument. They say that there are many mountains that consist of rocks in Scotland. Different from Britain where houses are built with bricks, buildings in Scotland are built of rocks dug out from the mountains. These architectures made out of rock seem to play a part in the antique and classical atmosphere of Edinburgh.

The whole city was hustle and bustle getting ready for the Hogmany festival. The concert stage was installed with the Edinburgh castle as the background, and over a background of thousand years old town buildings various rides and ice rink were available. The harmony between unharmonious things seemed very attractive.

When I was walking down Royal Mile crowded with most of the tourist sights, I was able to run into a couple of street artists. Especially, the man who is taking pictures with the tourists dressed like Mel Gibson from Brave Heart wearing the traditional Scottish costume is a celebrity at Royal Miles. Despite the cold weather, he was wearing a tartan skirt and was posing with a loud roar each time he was taking a picture with the tourists. I could tell how much he prides and loves Scotland from his passionate behavior.

Among many things that represent Scotland, probably the check pattern is the most known. You can easily find souvenir shops that sell items with check patterns anywhere in Edinburgh. From 100% cashmere clothing and accessories to mugs, dolls etc… it seemed like everything you can make with check pattern was gathered. Even a cute dog with tartan check outfit!

In Scotland, you can find tradition and people who proudly live the tradition. Following the tradition is their everyday life and something ordinary for them. I guess this is the reason why every year tourists flood to Scotland and Edinburgh and return home impressed, promising to visit again.

We had some crazy snow here in December.

It snowed only on the weekend.

We’ve been praying that we would like to get some snow on the weekdays.

If it snows a lot on the weekdays, my mama doesn’t have to deal with going to work or school.
:D

We all hope that it would happen soon!!

Winter Wonderland, Highland

Samsung  Electronics has provided the author of this article with the mentioned digital imaging device.

Highland, literally, means the north of Scotland, the high areas. I decided to take a one day tour of Highland through a Highland tour company. The tour bus driver said that Highland bus tour course is one of the greatest one day tour courses in Europe. This tour is a 12 hour tour which leaves Edinburgh at 8 o’clock in the morning and returns at 8 o’clock in the evening. But to see the famous beautiful snowy landscape of Highland I’ve decided to endure that much.

 SAM_4264

Before arriving at Highland, the bus stopped for a moment for a photo time. I was asleep on the way and when I opened my eyes, a jaw dropping scenery spread before my eyes. The snowy scenery of Scotland, with many rocky mountains, was really unique. The clear color of the sky and snowy landscape of the rocky mountain were harmonious and marvelous that even looking at it directly it makes you wonder whether you’re looking at a picture.

At last we arrived at the town with Loch Ness, the highlight of Highland tour. The scenery of the town which was surrounded by the snowy mountains and lake deep as the sea was breathtaking. As soon as I arrived at the town the first thing that captured my eye was the boat dock. The boat you see in the picture is the boat I’m going to ride to see the Loch Less.

SAM_4305

ST500(TL220) l 1/180s l 3.5f  l  ISO80  l  4.9mm l Program Auto

Finally, I’m on the boat. Let’s go! Loch Less is the biggest and the deepest lake in UK with 36km in length and 230m in depth. The Loch Less seen from the boat didn’t look like a lake but seemed more like the sea. The water is too deep that the color of the water was black and you couldn’t see the end of Loch Less.

 SAM_4314

Because of its enormous size, there are a lot of rumor saying that there’ a monster living inside. I just laughed when I heard that rumor but to see the real Loch Less it made me think there could be a real monster inside. The size of Loch Less was overwhelming and it was enough to stimulate the imaginations of numerous tourists.

While I was observing the scenery through the windows of the boat, I found this cute monster attached to the window. I took a picture of this cute monster and it seemed like the real monster living in Loch Less. And at the entrance of the town, there stands a big structure which embodies the monster. If there was a monster, they imagined it would look like it but to me eyes it just looked cute. The name of the monster is “‘Nessi’. How can it not be cute?

On the bus ride back to Edinburgh after seeing Loch Less, once again we had photo time. And there, we met children playing riding sleds. There are many hills in Highland that it seemed like if you just come out with a sled you can ride sleds everywhere. The snowy scenery of Highland seen behind the joyful family makes you admire once again.

After ending a few days of travel to Edinburgh and Highland, lastly I wrote a letter on a card to my family which I bought as a souvenir. The drawing of the cow on the card is the Highland cow which lives in Highland, and the fur attached to the card is the real fur of Highland cow. Whether it’s true or not, goodbye for now!

FIT and spring

For the first time in this year, I felt spring is coming. I was exhausted to wait for the warm weather and sun. One day, I was working on campus and I thought it is going to be a good idea to introduce how my school looks like. I might have wanted to capture the scenes that I have been seeing for 3 years because I am officially going to graduate this May. Anyway, enjoy the young spirit and passion for fashion.

Avinguda De Gaudi

Samsung  Electronics has provided the author of this article with the mentioned digital imaging device.

A year ago I saw a movie called “Vicky Cristina Barcelona“. I was really impressed with the movie and decided to visit Barcelona someday, the background city from the movie. And a year later, as soon as Easter holiday started, I packed my bag and left for Barcelona.

Barcelona is one of the most famous and visited cities in the world so the city reminds you of many things but you cannot start the story without mentioning Gaudi. Barcelona is the city of Gaudi. Looking at his architectures around the city, it made me realize that I was really in Barcelona. So in this post, I’d like to put together some of Gaudi’s famous architectural pieces and introduce them to you.

SAM_4909

This is a picture of Sagrada Familia seen from street of Gaudi (Avinguda De Gaudi). Approximately 170cm in height, this architecture is the land mark of Barcelona and represents the essence of Gaudi’s architectural philosophy.

Started building in 1882, still in process, this Catholic Church will take 200 more years to complete if it is built on Gaudi’s plan. Like it, Gaudi’s architectural philosophy is beyond profound and mysterious, it’s even marvelous.

As seen in the picture, the Church is still going under construction and the construction site has naturally become another sightseeing spot of Sagrada Familia from a long time ago. When you look at the height of the interior and all the carvings on the pillar, you’ll understand why it takes such a long time to finish this building.

Next is Casa Mila. It was built for the married couple, Rosario Segimon and Pere Mila. As if you can feel the touch of Gaudi, who was often inspired by the nature, the wavy exterior of the building is just so amazing.

This is a picture of the inside. From furniture, tiles, and wallpapers, everything was preserved in excellent condition that it made me wonder if there are people still living here. The highlight of Casa Mila   is the rooftop. You’ll encounter the mysterious and unique pieces at the rooftop. Some look like huge shells and some resemble warrior’s helmet. I couldn’t get 100% of Gaudi’s psychological world, but I could 100% understand why he’s called a genius.

Probably Gaudi’s favorite ingredient when he’s constructing a building is ceramic. When you go to the rooftop of Casa Batll ƒ ³, you can see a sculpture decorated with color ceramic. Ceramic looks really pretty under sunshine, but due to the cloudy weather I couldn’t see the shining appearance of it, which was a huge disappointment.

It was so difficult to select a few pictures from the hundred of photosD Along with Gaudi’s architecture, I’ll show you the unseen part of Barcelona through the next post!

One of the things I was impressed about traveling in Barcelona was the colorful exteriors of the buildings. There seems to be no ordinary building in Barcelona. They may be ordinary in shape and structure but each building boasted of unique and beautiful wall designs.

I think local market is one of the places where you can closely observe lives of the local people. On Ramblas street (Las Ramblas) in Barcelona there is a historical market named La Boqueria that has been around since 1882.

Known as the finest market in Europe, like their reputation you can find everything here. Specially one of the most interesting things to see is the way they display the goods. The vendor’s displaying skills are outstanding, it’s almost as if there are showing off what display is all about.

It was the first time for me to see selling fruits hanging up. It was quite an exotic scene but maybe because it was a part of the local market, somehow it felt friendly.

There are many tourist attractions in Barcelona but personally I think La Boqueria is the place you can experience and see the true sides of Barcelona.

As soon as I stepped into the airplane headed back to UK after a week of travelling in Barcelona, I started to miss Barcelona. The perfect scenery with the mild weather, the mountains and the sea. The cozy atmosphere where people know how to relax and enjoy siesta, and most of all, the nice Spanish people who always treat you with a smile on their face.

I’ve visited the Bournemouth beach in a long time. I live in UK and Bournemouth is like a second home to me. I have friends who are just like a family and there are memories we’ve shared together, and a beautiful sea with endless beach. On an exceptionally clear day, I decide to just walk along the beach.

The weather is still cold but there’s no way the surfers will miss out on a lovely day like this. Surfers are leisurely enjoying the afternoon moving freely, entrusting themselves to the wind and the waves.

A family flying a kite. Father holds the kite and reads the direction of the wind and when he shouts one, two, three the daughter quickly releases the string and launches the kite into the sky. They were laughing endlessly and thanks to the family, I was able to smile as well.

After leaving Bournemouth before returning to Hull, I stopped by London. Spring was definitely in the air after Easter in London as well, so I decided to walk along the Thames River enjoying the warm spring weather and the cool river breeze.

When I was walking along the river, an eye-catching sight made me stop. Who appear to be father and son were carving the Homer Simpson couple on the sand. This father and son with a perfect teamwork have been working for 6 hours since the morning. There were no signs of fatigue and even when a lot of people gathered to watch them, they kept on working. Truly a wonderful father and son couple that matches with the beautiful weather!

Samsung has updated new animations on “Children Mode” for PL150 (TL210) /  PL100 (TL205) and ST550 (TL225) /  ST500(TL220). As we already know, Samsung’s 2view camera series  have a brilliant function for those who want to easily capture their smiling children. We had announced, on the blog,  a variety of  animations on ST550 (TL225) / ST500 (TL220)’s Children Mode. And now, the animations  have freshly come with a  new character, “Pororo”.

Everyone knows that children  are very keen on this character  regardless of nationality or ages. “Pororo”, a cuddly little blue penguin wearing orange-rimmed goggles, looks unusual and curious, but always friendly. He would be a clever character which can amuse children and, at the same time, make them entirely focused on the viewing screen. Indeed, children are easily diverted… We are sure that all the parents taking their children out on a picnic  won’t need to worry about  making outdoor shots with children’s smiles. Have more fun now !

The  PL150(TL210)/PL100(TL205) and ST550(TL225)/ST500(TL220) have especially been loved by outgoing and relaxed people  for all seasons. It is true that smart ideas and sharped technologies are making  not only a better world, but also a special leisure life, even for children.

Samsung’s 2view series are good because of:

1 Taking self-pictures easier than ever.

2 Self-timer function, to know exactly when the shot is going to be taken.

and 3 “Children mode” -animations to gain the attention of your children’s, while taking pictures.

If you want to download the animations, simply click on the images!
